Dry eye occurs when the eye lacks sufficient lubrication, causing discomfort with each blink. Symptoms can include a scratchy, irritated feeling of the eyelid running over the front of the eye.
The lack of lubrication on the eye surface is due to an imbalance of the outer layer of the tear film, which contains essential fatty compounds. This is called the oily or lipid layer, which is responsible for controlling tear evaporation from the eye’s surface.
Latest research reveals that almost 80% of dry eye sufferers have a disturbance of the eye’s lipid layer. Many patients are under the belief that they do not produce enough tears. They do in fact, it’s simply a case that they have evaporated from the eye’s surface causing the feeling of dry eye.
Tears Again is currently the only product available in Australia which addresses the underlying cause of dry eye – a disturbance of the lipid layer. It is a liposomal spray, sprayed onto the closed eye. Each metered dose spray comprises of millions of tiny liposomes.
