BioRevive has released an innovative new treatment called Tears Again for dry eyes. According to BioRevive, research shows that 80% of dry eye sufferers have a disturbance of the eye's lipid layer, which controls tear evaporation.
In most cases, dry eye was caused by excessive evaporation rather than insufficient tears, BioRevive chief executive officer William Crothers said. German company Optima Pharmaceuticals (www.optimapharma.de) has developed Tears Again, which effectively stabilises the lipid layer of the dry eye.
"The lipid layer is responsible for reducing up to 95% of tear evaporation from the eye. This control over tear evaporation dramatically improves the lubrication of both the eyes and eye lids", Mr Crothers said.
Tears Again is sprayed onto the closed eyelid and can be used while wearing make-up or contact lenses. It has a three-year shelf life. (Reference: Australian Optometry, May 2006)
