What is the Gluten Test?
BioRevive’s Gluten Test is a rapid, simple and reliable at-home test kit which detects whether you have issues with gluten consumption, using a fingertip blood sample. It only takes 5 minutes for a positive or negative result.
What is gluten?
Gluten is a complex mixture of storage proteins found in wheat, barley, rye and oats. Thousands of everyday foods contain gluten especially processed foods.
What is Gluten Intolerance?
It is is a gastrointestinal disorder that can cause a wide spectrum of symptoms including diarrhoea, abdominal bloating, flatulence, weight loss or weight gain, headaches, malnutrition and skin disorders. It is sometimes confused with digestive ailments.
Who is likely to have Gluten Intolerance?
It is a genetic disorder so if your parents suffer from it, there is a possibility you may also have Gluten Intolerance. It is a lifelong disorder and can affect any age from 6 months upwards (i.e. once a child starts eating solid foods).
How accurate is the Gluten Test?
It is highly accurate in both sensitivity and specificity using a finger prick sample of blood.
How long does the Gluten Test take?
The at-home test takes only 5 minutes for a positive or negative result.
What does the Gluten Test contain?
1 x aluminium pouch containing test stick, 1 x sterile automatic piercing lancet, 1 x plastic vessel with a 10 microlitre glass capillary (tube), 1 x alcohol-soaked swab, 1 x plaster, 1 x tube containing 0.5 ml sample dilution buffer, 1 x leaflet with instructions for use.
How do I test with the Gluten Test?
Once the contents of the test (aluminium pouch) have been opened, the test must be performed within 10 minutes. The piercing lancet is used to get a fingerprick sample of blood, which is then squeezed into the glass capillary (tube). The blood and buffer solution in the tube should then be shaken and mixed together. Then the test stick can be placed inside the tube so it soaks up the mixed solution. Remove test stick from tube and solution after 5 minutes. Results will show on the test stick i.e. 2 red lines indicate positive, 1 red line indicates negative. Please always refer to the instructions for use.
What if I test positive ?
The Gluten Test indicates that there are Gluten Intolerance associated IgA antibodies in the tested blood. Detection of these antibodies indicates a high probability of an existing Gluten Intolerance. For final diagnosis and possible treatment please refer to your healthcare practitioner. It is likely you may need to follow a strict gluten-free and possibly lactose-free diet, but you should always refer to a qualified healthcare practitioner before starting any dietary regime.
What if I return a negative result?
The gluten test indicates that there are no Gluten Intolerance associated IgA antibodies in the tested blood. This means Gluten Intolerance is very unlikely, unless the instructions for use have not been followed correctly. If gastrointestinal complaints are present, please refer to your healthcare practitioner.
How many times can I test?
The Gluten Test is a single-use test kit. If you wish to test again e.g. when following a gluten-free diet, you will need to purchase another Gluten Test.
What is the expiry date?
The Gluten Test should be used within 10 minutes of opening the aluminium pouch, however the shelf-life, when unopened, is up to 2 years.
